SEND Officer

Key accountabilities (and specific duties / responsibilities):

Main Duties 

  • Effective use of the G Suite to deliver an effective administration service.

  • Keep abreast of current guidance, requirements and good practice.

  • Develop good working relationships with outside agencies and stakeholders –pupils, parents/carers, teachers and professionals.

  • Present a positive personal image, contributing to a welcoming school environment.

  • Provide excellent customer service to parents, pupils, colleagues and visitors to the Academy.

  • Comply with the policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety

and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

  • Be aware of and support differences and ensure equal opportunities for all.

  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.

  • Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.

EHCP

  • Support the EHCP process from start to finish. 

  •  Provide support to staff and the Academy at all stages of the process.

  •  Liaise with parents, carers and outside agencies to maximise attendance.

  •  Document EHCP reviews.

  •  Check and respond to draft and final EHCP from the Local Authority.

  •  Manage information on the Synergy system.

  •  Maintain all EHCP and student files securely. 

  •  Work with professionals to ensure their knowledge, expertise and skills inform the EHCP.

  •  Work with professionals including school staff to ensure the EHCP clearly details the needs of the child/young person and has clear actions and outcomes.

  •  Coordinate the EHCP assessment process for new students.

  •  Ensure paperwork is completed within statutory deadlines in accordance with SEND reform guidance.

  •  Use ICT packages to support an efficient and effective practice.

  •  Ensure high levels of confidentiality.

Data Systems

  • To support the SENCO in ensuring all teaching staff meet deadlines to ensure statutory requirements for reporting are met.

  • Support the SENCO with any of the following:

  • Consultations and admissions

  • Funding for Inclusion applications and data returns

  • Census

The post holder is required to undertake additional such duties as may reasonably be  expected within the scope and grading for the post.
